Textures in the Model

The textures used in my sketch up model are easily the most crucial part of it because they depict the artists influence on the building so clearly. The ancient doors from the Qing dynasty used in Ai WeiWei's studio had a distinct lattice pattern to them. Weiwei constructed this studio with irregular shaped doors all with the lattice pattern to create a sense of chaos and conformity at the same time. The studio which I created also has very square geometry but also a chaotic nature in the way it collapses on itself to form the staircase and the positioning of the windows.

The majority of Louise Bourgeois' art was confessional art. It is the expression of personal dwellings in a public place. The mottled texture I chose to use for the entire underground relates to this complicated art so that the studio for Lousie Bourgeois would feel personal and complex. The round connecting corridor between the studio and the exhibition space only acts as a physical barrier between the two rooms, not a mental barrier, to express the connection between the personal information exposed in the studio and the resulting art exhibited by Bourgeois.
